How to Take Carbonation Out of Beer

... Carbonation can have a negative effect on some people.

Beer is mixed with carbon dioxide to make it bubble. Some people enjoy the foamy head on a mug of beer, while others have an aversion to it. The carbonation can cause trapped gas in some people; it can also give you an uncomfortable, overfilled feeling, making it difficult to enjoy additional food or beverages. There are several ways to remove the carbonation from beer without altering the taste.

Video of the Day

Step 1

Pour the beer from the bottle or can into a cup. Pour it into another cup, then pour back into the first cup. Repeat the process approximately six or seven times until the carbonation is removed.

Step 2

Pour the beer into a large glass or mug and stir it vigorously in a circle with a spoon. Continue to stir for three to four minutes until it no longer foams up when stirred. This indicates that the carbonation is removed.

Step 3

Pour the beer into a saucepan and bring it to a boil over a high heat. Continue to boil for about three minutes to remove all traces of carbonation. Pour the beer from the saucepan into a large mug and place it in your refrigerator to cool it back down.

Step 4

Pour the beer into a glass, or simply remove the bottle cap. Put the beer back into the refrigerator to keep it cool while the carbonation dissipates. It should be free of carbonation in about two hours.

Tip

You can tell the carbonation is removed when you pour the beer into a cup and it no longer has a "head" on it.
